I am a Super Nerd, and I blame my family. I’m the youngest of four and the only girl (yes, I was spoiled), and my parents and older brothers all thought things like Star Trek, Superman, and Indiana Jones, etc. were much better things for a little girl to be interested in than Barbie dolls. I read The Hobbit when I was nine years old. While my fellow teenagers were complaining that there’s nothing to do in my home town of Juneau, Alaska, I was getting lost in Elfquest and Batman stories. I enjoy taking frequent vacations in Middle Earth. Also, I became a Drama Geek.
I went and got a Bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing from Pacific University in Oregon, where I argued vehemently with my professors about the merits of genre fiction, and now I’m getting a second Bachelor’s degree in Film, and arguing with my professors about the merits of popular movies. Possibly I just enjoy arguing with professors. In the 10 years between the two degrees, I’ve been mildly obsessed with (to name a few) Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, DC comics (especially Batman, of course!), Star Trek Voyager, Discworld, and Doctor Who. Who knows where I’ll strike next!
